What Topeng can, and cannot, do.
Topeng significantly reduces risk. It does not eliminate it, and we will not tell you otherwise. This page is the honest version of what that means.
What Topeng protects
- A published photo scraped from your site and run through an AI face or nudify tool. Cloaking disrupts what those systems can read.
- Photos you want stripped of an identifiable face entirely, through Face Blur.
- Photos already public or circulating, through Face Regeneration.
- The authenticity of a photo, through a C2PA signature that makes tampering visible.
- Your safeguarding process itself, through a time-stamped audit log.
What is beyond our control
- A photo we never processed, including a new photo taken of a child in person.
- Original, unprotected copies already in circulation.
- Printed images protected with invisible cloaking only. Use Blur or Regeneration for print.
- Heavy re-editing, which can weaken invisible protection.
- Future AI systems. No cloaking method is permanent, which is why the engine is built to update.
1.How is this different from a face-regeneration tool?+
Regeneration is one of Topeng’s methods, not the whole product. A single-method tool with a fixed image allowance protects a handful of photos and stops there. Topeng applies invisible cloaking across everything a school publishes as a baseline, holds Regeneration for the photos that need the most, signs every image with a verifiable chain of custody, and records it all in an audit log built for due diligence. The method is the smallest part of what a school is actually buying.
2.Does protection survive if the photo is printed?+
It depends on the method, and this matters. Face Blur and Face Regeneration change the actual pixels of the face, so they survive being printed and photographed again. Face Cloak works through an invisible signal in the image, and that signal may not survive print-then-photograph. So for anything that will be printed, a banner, a prospectus, a page someone might photograph, use Blur or Regeneration, not the invisible Cloak.
3.Can you protect a photo we never gave you?+
No, and we would rather say so. Topeng protects images you process before publishing. A photo taken of a child in person, or an original we never saw, is outside what any tool of this kind can reach. We protect what you publish. We are honest that we cannot protect what we never touched.
4.What about photos we have already published?+
For images already public and unprotected, Face Regeneration is built to disrupt reconstruction on the photos most at risk. We cannot recall copies already circulating, and we will not imply otherwise. From the point you start using Topeng, everything you publish carries protection and provenance from the start.
5.Will it still work as AI improves?+
No cloaking method is permanent. AI image generation changes constantly, so the protection engine is designed to be updated as new methods appear, and Topeng works as one layer of a school’s broader safeguarding, not as a standalone guarantee.
6.Does protecting a photo change how it looks?+
Two of the three methods leave the photo looking unchanged to a person. Face Cloak is invisible by design. Face Blur is visible only because a school chose it for a photo that should carry no identifiable face.
7.Is the data handling compliant?+
Photos are processed on Topeng’s own servers, never sent to outside AI services and never used to train models, and deleted once the protected version is ready. Every action is recorded in a time-stamped audit log, giving a chain of custody built for GDPR and PDPA review. Topeng acts as your data processor and the school remains the data controller; confirm this split with your own counsel.
8.Does using Topeng create liability, or reduce it?+
A school does not need to prove a photo was unbreakably protected to show safeguarding due diligence. It needs to show it took reasonable, documented, continuously updated measures. Overpromising is what creates exposure. An honest, layered, improving record is the more defensible position.
9.Do you keep our photos?+
No. The original is deleted the moment the protected version is ready. Nothing is retained as a permanent record.
